How to Control Your Windows PC with an Android Tablet
Follow these steps to connect your Android tablet to your Windows PC and use the Rocket Cruising Guide on the tablet.
Step 1: Enable Remote Desktop on Your Windows PC
- Press Windows + S to open search.
- Enter Settings: Remote Desktop.
- Toggle Enable Remote Desktop to ON. Confirm when prompted.
- Note the Name of your PC in the PC Name menu on the same page..
- Press Windows + S and enter Settings: Advanced Sharing Settings.
- Ensure the settings for both Private Network and Public Network are turned on to allow network discovery, file and printer sharing.
Step 2: Install Microsoft Remote Desktop on Your Android Tablet
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android tablet.
- Search for Microsoft Remote Desktop and install the app.
Step 3: Connect Your Tablet to Your PC
- Ensure your tablet and PC are on the same network:
- Using a Phone Hotspot:
- On your phone, enable the hotspot feature (usually found under Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & Tethering).
- Connect both your PC and tablet to the phone’s Wi-Fi network.
- Using Your PC's Hotspot:
- On your PC, press Windows +S to open Search.
- Enter Settings: Mobile Hotspot.
- Toggle Mobile Hotspot to ON.
- Under Share my Internet connection, choose Wi-Fi.
- Note the network name and password displayed.
- On your tablet, connect to this network using the provided credentials.
- Using a Phone Hotspot:
- Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on your tablet.
- Tap the + button and select Desktop.
- Enter your PC name and save the connection.
- Tap on the saved connection and enter your Windows username and password when prompted.
- Note: The username is the name shown in the C:\\Users folder on your computer (see below)
- Tap Connect. Your PC desktop will now appear on your tablet.
Step 4: Use the Rocket Cruising Guide Program
- Navigate the PC using your tablet:
- Tap: Acts as a left-click.
- Long Press: Acts as a right-click.
- Hover for Tooltips: Place your finger or stylus near the icon, then slowly slide it over the icon and then lift it off.
- Open the Rocket Cruising Guide on the PC or on the Tablet by clicking on the icon or in the start menu.
- Control the program on the tablet using the gestures above. It works best with a stylus instead of a finger.
Tips for Better Performance
- Ensure both devices are on a strong Wi-Fi network.
- Use a PC hotspot if no Wi-Fi is available (Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Hotspot).
- Adjust display settings in the Remote Desktop app for better resolution and scaling.
Step 5: Disconnect
- When you're done, close the Microsoft Remote Desktop app or tap Disconnect in the menu.
- Your PC will remain running unless you shut it down remotely.
How to Find the Correct Username for Remote Desktop
The username needed to connect to your Windows PC through Remote Desktop is the name of your user account on the computer, which corresponds to the name of the folder with the user files in C:\Users.
- To find your username on your PC use the windows key + S to open search and type Command Prompt. When the command prompt windows opens type whoami to get the username.
