How to Operate Rocket Cruising Guides on an iPad Connected to a Mac

Follow these steps to set up your Mac and iPad for remote access and run the Rocket Cruising Guides software:

Step 1: Enable VNC Server on Your Mac

  1. On your Mac, click the Apple Menu and select System Settings (or System Preferences).
  2. Go to General > Sharing (or just Sharing on older macOS versions).
  3. Turn on Remote Management.
  4. Set a VNC password:
    • Click the i icon to open the Remote Management settings window.
    • Make a note the computer address (e.g., 233.444.200.889).
    • Click on the Computer Settings button.
    • Check all the boxes and set a secure password. Make a note of this password.
    • Click OK and then Done.

Step 2: Install and Configure VNC Viewer on Your iPad

  1. On your iPad, open the App Store and search for VNC Viewer by RealVNC.
  2. Download and install the app.
  3. Open the app, but do not sign into a RealVNC account. Tap Skip if prompted.
  4. Tap the + (Add Connection) button.
  5. In the Address field, enter your Mac’s IP address noted earlier.
  6. In the Name field, give the connection a descriptive name (e.g., "My Mac").
  7. Save the connection.

Step 3: Connect Your iPad to the Mac

  1. On your iPad, tap the saved connection in the VNC Viewer app.
  2. Enter the VNC password you set on the Mac.
  3. Tap Connect. Your Mac’s desktop should now appear on your iPad.

Step 4: Operate Rocket Cruising Guides

  1. On the Mac desktop, locate and open the Rocket Cruising Guides software by clicking its icon or searching for it using Spotlight (Command + Space).
  2. You will see the Rocket Guide on your iPad and can operate the software as you would directly on the Mac.
  3. Use your iPad to navigate the guide.:
    • Tap: Acts as a left-click.
    • Pinch-to-Zoom: Zoom in and out on the Mac screen.
    • Drag: Move windows or files.

Step 5: Disconnect When Done

  1. To disconnect, go back to the VNC Viewer app and close the connection.
  2. Your Mac will remain accessible unless you turn off Remote Management.
